Lake Ann Hike - an A-Team Hike plus a little more ~ Nov 5, 2015

Journal entry by Don

It was not as sunny a day as we had hoped for but there were periods of sun and blue sky and the temperature climbed enough so that we soon were peeling layers. To the 12 CCers who appeared at the entrance of Moreau Park we added 3 interlopers who arrived a week earlier for a regular Moreau Park hike to Lake Ann. Fortunately for us Sam Lantz who is a custodian of the park, joined us and became our experienced guide. There continue to be many beech and oak leaves on the trees with gold to brown-red colors that the trip up the hill and through the woods remained a pretty fall scene. On the way we made the side trip to the outlook over the bend in the Hudson River and spent time viewing the distant hills with the Spruce Mtn tower clearly seen. We arrived at the Lake Ann lean-to at 12 noon exactly - don't know how that was managed! No one having been there, after lunch at the lean-to we decided to continue on the road toward the prison (through the old rifle range) but gave up after half a mile with the prison grounds not yet in sight. From there we made a relatively quick return to the cars. Somewhere along the way it was pointed out that the trip was a lot longer and more elevation than the description so that it became more than an A-Team hike. We will try to do better in the future!
