Hello everyone, It's me again - Tom thought I needed practice writing another trip report so here it is. Team Gibbs, consisting of Jack & Lenore, Ken, Nancy Kimball, Donna Wescott, Anita, Claudia, Linda & me, and of course Tom, assembled for the outing by putting on pretty much everything we brought for the very cool temps and wind. Sue Roberts showed up and was looking forward to the trip but equipment problems forced her to return home and perhaps stop at a bike shop on the way. We headed west on the paved bike path for our first part of the trip with glimpses of the Mohawk along the way, going under the Thaddeus Kosiuszko Bridge (a.k.a. the Twin Bridges), and stopping at Lock #7. Our timing couldn't have been better as were able to watch two boats pass through and watch a complete cycle of the operation of a lock before turning around and back to our start for a lunch break. The picnic tables along the river near the boat launch were tempting but the wind herded us to the picnic area near the pavilion where it was more sheltered. Having biked eighteen miles lunch was especially tasty, even my granola bar. Lunch was a little later than normal and some of the team had afternoon obligations so we bid farewell to Anita, Nancy, Claudia and Donna and headed to the Cohoes Falls. The falls were only a couple of miles east of the recreation center but well worth the trip because there was plenty of water going over from the swollen Mohawk - we could only imagine how they were a few weeks before. This was my first visit to the Colonie Bike path and won't be my last - another great CC outing. Peter 6/6/11 - Ken Gericke added 2 photos.
