Schuylerville Hudson River Paddle ~ Aug 11, 2016

Journal entry by Don McMahon

Too hot a day to walk for some of us so the A Team - in this case JoEllen, Lynn, Fran a third Linda, Tom and I - started from the Schuylerviller take out to paddle the near by waters. We paddled up the east and shady side of the Hudson to the Battenkill and up the Battenkill to the rocks just below the dam (as far as you can go!), then back to the Hudson and up the Hudson as far as you could go, in this case under the restored foot bridge and up to the series of stone pillars that were once railroad bridges where there were cataracts and white water. We then retreted to the take out adjacent to the Champlain Canal Lock where we got out and had lunch at a picnic bench under a shady tree and a cooling breeze. After lunch the main group went back down the Hudson and around Schuyler Island to the mouth of Fish creek and up Fish creek as far as you can go before returning to the starting point. A pleasant day on the water with a cooling breeze mitigating the rather warm temperature and high humidity!
