Zim Smith Trail Bike ~ May 2, 2013

Journal entry by Fran Herve

The leader, Ken, Karen and Leon met at the Warming Hut on a cool, sunny morning and started pedaling at a fairly good pace on the back roads through Saratoga and Malta to arrive at Shenantaha Park an hour later. Don, Claudia, Linda, Anita, Liz, Gretchen, Ann, Tom, Jan and Bill were waiting for us to hop on the trail. With perfect weather and the whole day in front of us we admired the scenery on this mostly flat trail through Malta, Round Lake, Clifton Park and Halfmoon. The birds were out singing and early spring flowers embellished every garden along the trail. After reaching the end of the trail at Coons Crossing we added a short distance by biking an extra loop on a couple roads. On the way back we stopped in Round Lake and Ken took us on a tour of this delightful Victorian village. Soon we found ourselves back at Shenantaha Creek Park. The sun was shining brightly and the temperature had climbed so we settled at the sheltered picnic tables for lunch. After conversation and goodbyes some decided to head back home, others opted to bike to the North end at Oak Street and then return to their cars at Shenantaha while the rest of us biked back to the Warming Hut at a more leisurely speed. Thank you all for sharing this ideal day!
