Hudson River Canoe/Kayak ~ May 23, 2017

Journal entry by Don McMahon

Luck was with us for our Hudson River paddle, an excellent weather day with an excellent water level. We left two cars at the take out, the Stony Creek Ranch Resort (formerly 1000 Acres Dude Ranch), met the rest at the Railroad Station and drove to Snake Rock (alias Elefant Head) for the take out. There were 8 of us - Bob G, Gail, Joy, Margie, Carolyn (from the EZRiders) 2 Dons, and Tom our leader - a good size for keeping everyone in sight. Aside from one shallow spot where we all were bouncing against on the gravel bed and one overturned kayak, the day was a pleasurable down river trip. Always exciting trying to miss the big bolders, some just under the water surface, as you're being whisked along by a 4 mph current. And Tom was an excellent leader - just like a mother duck waiting for us little ducklings to get through the difficult spots. A terriffic event!
