Ben Wood Mountain ~ Mar 14, 2013

Journal entry by Donna Wood

We finally made it to Ben Wood Mountain. 14 crooked caners started at the Wood's house and ventured into the woods. The usual trail was flooded in the swamp area, so an alternate route was taken. We went up the side of Tripp mountain and had some nice views of Gore and Crane. We weaved our way through the woods - many open areas which had been logged and we followed the brook at times. The colder weather had hardened the snow, so we did not need to use snowshoes. It was a lovely, brisk day and we finally met the road leading up to Ben Wood mountain. We lunched at the top, overlooking Pack forest lake and Ben Wood swamp pond. Our return seemed much faster, and we observed deer and turkey tracks, and a possible moose track. We had gone 7 miles and returned to the Wood house for hot cocoa and snacks. A lovely day with friends. Thanks, Lenore and Jack, Katy and Ray, Jim I. and Jim R., Nancy, Ray B., Ken,Fran, Don and Diane for joining us.
