A-Team Shelving Rock area hike ~ May 4, 2017

Journal entry by Don McMahon

What a gorgeous day to be out! Crisp morning with lots of sun and no black flies to start with. With Gail, Shelly, Bonnie, Nancy, Margie, and Linda showing up at CTL and no Tom, it looked like me and my harem, but I was saved by Mark and Joy showing up later at Shelving Rock Falls. We walked up the herd path along the brook toward the falls which gives beautiful views of the cataracts below the falls. And the falls was in full bloom with lots of water cascading down. We then followed the trail along the shore of Lake George, walking out on several points for better views - no better place for the many views per mile walked. On one such point we watched a pair of loons becoming acquainted. A leasurely lunch was had on the rock point next to the take out at the end of the public part of Shelving Rock Road. Having spotted a car there we then arranged to transport everyone to the end of the trail for Shelving Rock Mtn. Here I have to correct the record, having grossly under-estimated the climb elevation and distance. That part of the hike was a climb of slightly more than 700 ft. with a round trip distance of 3.4 miles. But the day was sunny, the view was good, and the black flies were not bothersome. Hurray for an excellent A-Team event!
