Antone (Mt. Anthony) Mountain ~ Mar 15, 2012

Journal entry by Anita Dingman

We didn't take a photo on top but when we got back to the cars I put a camera on a car and used a timer.

Don says the hike was only about a mile and with 700 feet elevation change but it seemed longer. However, it only took us about 2 hours...

Addendum to the Trip Report

Wow – to think it is sometimes difficult to get attendees for one event but to succeed with having three events in one day – it may be a first.

Completing the Shippee’s Ledge hike early in the afternoon and realizing so many people had left-over energy, Anita suggested a hike to the top of Antone Mountain as an additional outing – a local mountain, sort of in her back yard. Despite a little drizzle there were five takers – Don, Liz, Diane, Linda and Anita (Don and his harem!).

It was only a short ride to the secret trailhead location and the steady drizzle had already started but the five hikers were on a mission so nothing was going to stop them. After about 50 minutes of hiking on a logging road, some bushwhacking and a partial ribbon marked trail the overlook was reached with views of the Sacandaga. Anita shared some Girl Scout cookies and Don some mini chocolates and although the rain had subsided somewhat there wasn’t any need to linger, so back to the cars they went only to arrive under sun and blue skies. A wonderful spur of the moment outing.
